Spectra Energy exists to create superior, long-term value for our investors, customers, employees and communities by providing natural gas infrastructure and services, including gathering and processing, transmission, storage, and distribution.
Spectra Energy’s commitment to sustainability continues to be recognized. For the second consecutive year, we have been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as well as the U.S. S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
The DJSI’s recognition of our financial, economic and social efforts ranks us as a leader among our peers. Qualification criteria included corporate governance, environmental standards, climate change policy, risk management, supply chain standards, labor practices and employee development.
The CDLI is led by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Companies selected for the CDLI have demonstrated superior transparency and accountability by publicly disclosing detailed climate change strategies.
Our sustainability strategy balances our efforts to ensure that our operations return superior value to our investors and add societal value. It helps us manage non-financial risks to our business, provides a competitive advantage in accessing new markets and sensitive areas and builds public and employee support – reinforcing our brand and building our reputation as an organization that lives its values.

In addition to disclosing our 2007 results, our first report helped to drive important foundation-setting endeavors – collecting and analyzing data, setting metrics and formalizing our commitments.
Our sustainability commitments reflect our Charter values (pdf, 94 KB) and our business objectives. These are the focus areas that have the greatest impact on our ability to execute our business strategy and are most relevant to our stakeholders.
