What We Do
Spectra Energy develops and operates pipelines in addition to natural gas gathering and processing, transporting, storing and distributing for North American markets.
Natural gas is one of the cleanest, safest and most useful of all energy sources. Once it has been gathered and processed, natural gas is transported through pipelines that send to storage facilities for periods of higher demand or span the continent for distribution in communities like yours.
This is what Spectra Energy does. This, and develop and safely operate the pipelines needed to accommodate the demand for natural gas.
Take a closer look at these key areas of service we provide to our customers in the U.S. and Canada:
- Gathering and Processing: Spectra Energy owns and operates natural gas processing plants and more than 3,500 miles of gathering pipelines in Western Canada. We also have a 50 percent ownership interest in DCP Midstream, one of the largest natural gas liquids producer in North America.
- Transmission and Storage: We own and operate one of the largest long-haul natural gas pipeline networks in North America. Spectra Energy’s 19,100-mile transmission pipeline system receives natural gas from major North American producing regions for delivery to customers primarily in these areas:
- Mid-Atlantic, New England and Southeastern U.S
- Ontario
- Alberta
- British Columbia & U.S. Pacific Northwest
We also own or have interests in underground natural gas storage facilities with a working capacity of about 285 Bcf (billion cubic feet).
- Distribution: Spectra Energy provides natural gas sales and distribution service to about 1.3 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in Ontario through our subsidiary, Union Gas Limited.
